Markets end flat

The Sensex has ended (provisional) at 17,458, down 28 points. The NSE Nifty has ended (provisional) at 5,220, down five points. The Nifty is flat at 5,225. ____________________________________________________ (Updated at 1441 hrs) Markets have continued to display weakness. Earlier, the Sensex pared gains on weak cues from the Asian markets and dropped to a low of 17,425. The index has now recovered to 17,451 - down 35 point. The Nifty is down 16 points at 5,210. Jaiprakash Associates has shed 3% at Rs 155. ONGC has dropped 2.6% to Rs 1,166. DLF and Sterlite have declined nearly 2% each to Rs 373 and Rs 854, respectively. Wipro has slipped 1.5% to Rs 727 in spite of a strong Q3 performance. HDFC Bank, Sun Pharma and ACC are the other losers in the index now. On the other hand, Bharti Airtel has gained 3% at Rs 330. Tata Steel has added 2.3% to Rs 653. Hindalco is up 1% at rs 165. Maruti Suzuki and ICICI Bank has added 1-2% each. HDFC has moved up marginally following the announcement of its Q3 numbers. The BSE market breadth is negative. Out of 2,956 stocks traded, 1,746 have declined while 1,123 have advanced.
