Vedic row: Alleged land shark among 6 arrested

A man allegedly involved in illegal land acquisition for the controversial Vedic village resort near New Kolkata township was arrested along with five others from Bankura by a North 24 Parganas police team today. - Vedic fire burns IT park North 24 Parganas SP Rahul Srivastav said the alleged land shark Gaffar and his accomplices were arrested from Indas in Bankura district. Vedic Village, a luxury resort on the city fringe, was burnt down by a mob protesting against forcible land acquisition for it on August 23 opening up a land scandal which has led to the shelving of the ambitious IT project by the government in the area in which Infosys and Wipro were to set up their units. The land issue had snowballed into a major crisis .
